Leisure, Challenge, Competition

March 17, 2007: The first adopted club charity ride will occur in Concord, Georgia. It is                         sponsored by the Pike County Kiwanis. As with all club adopted rides,                             we would like all members to take part if at all possible. Check out their                         website: http://www.kiwanispike.org/. If you register online, be sure to                         add somewhere (e.g.,after your name) Team Life University.

This ride was completed on one of the coldest, windiest days we've had.                         As always, however, a great time was had by all.

Group Rides:     This quarter (Fa): The best way to find ride times is to join our yahoo                             groups where rides are usually posted. Times for rides vary. You can                             also contact ride leaders: for road rides it is Matt Romo                                               (matthew.romo@gmail.com), and for Mt. rides is Rusty Wouters                                         (rustywouters@yahoo.com).  Make sure to confirm that the ride is                             viable for any given day.

May 5:   Dirty Spokes 12 hour race. The total number of teams we will be entering is not                         yet final, but we have several members looking forward to this race.                             You can do it solo, two person or four person teams, including co-ed.                             This is a mountain bike race. If you are interested let Rusty know as                             soon as possible. Entry fees go up with time. For more, see                                                       www.dirtyspokes.com or www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1432555 ,                         where you can also register for the ride.

We had 9 riders compete in this race: 1-4 man relay team; one 4                                 person coed team; and one solo male (solo was for 6 hours). Everyone                         thoroughly enjoyed the time spent together (our new large canopy tent                         was a big help). All teams did well, and our president Rusty managed a                         stand on the third place podium. His Life uniform looked great.                                     Everyone is looking forward to the next race. If a few of us road bikers                         can manage to pick up a mountain bike, the next race will feature even                         more Life riders on the circuit.

May 12:   Biking for Burns. This is a road ride that benefits The Georgia Firefighters Burn                         Foundation. One of their projects is to send children that have suffered                         burns to summer camp. The ride offers options of 25, 50, 64,80, and                             100 miles. Let's get out there and support those kids. More info is                                 available at www.bikingforburns.org.

This event is now history, and we can report another successful ride.                             Thirteen riders rambled over the roads of three counties in north                                 Georgia. Five did the 25 mile route and the rest did the 50 mile route.                         We had some first timers do the ride, and now they are hooked and                             telling everyone else what a great time they had. Of course, the best                             part is that in having the fun, we helped those burned children look                             forward to their time in summer camp.

August 5:  Project Adventure Kids. Sunday morning we will be taking off with hundreds                          of other riders in the Covington Century ride. There are ride options                         of 30, 50, 75, and 100 miles. It is billed to be one of the fastest century                         rides in the southeast, great for establishing personal best times.                                 Proceeds of the ride go to Project Adventure Kids, which helps                                       homeless, abused, neglected, and at risk youth. To find out more about                         the ride, visit www.projectadventurekids.org/century.htm. To register online,                         go to active.com.

Six members traveled to Covington for this ride. One did 30 miles, two                         did 50 miles and three did the Century. It was a great ride, though the                         heat and humidity were rather extreme (temps in the upper 90's).
